Improvers Knitting – Make a Sweater Vest – Wednesdays in May 7pm-9pm (over 4 weeks).
With the onset of Spring and longer days, it is the perfect time to make a sweater vest, a great transitional piece.
For knitters who are confident with the basics of casting on, knitting, purling, ribbing and casting off, who are ready to move on and make a start on your first garment.
Over 4 classes we will work towards knitting your choice of a simple sweater vest. Going step by step, so that you get to the stage where you will be able to finish your first garment with the confidence and knowledge to tackle knitting more garments.
Course details:
- deciding on the pattern from the selection below
- choosing the right yarn for your pattern
- working out which size to make for the pattern and learning about ease
- swatching and measuring your tension- reading and following the pattern and the knitting terminology
- mastering the stitches and techniques used in the pattern
- working towards completing the vest with appropriate finishing techniques and blocking (knitting between classes will help you reach the construction stage, however we will cover the methods for finishing the vest in the last class regardless, so that even if the vest isn’t finished, you will have the skills to complete it at home).
The course fee includes all tuition and a choice of vest patterns. Yarn and needles are not included, but once the pattern is chosen, I can advise on yarn choices in advance and during the first session. If you have a particular pattern in mind, let me know in advance so that I can gauge whether it isn’t too complex. Email me at theoburrow@googlemail.com
